Below are a number of research projects currently being undertaken by University of Melbourne graduate students. The researchers have asked the GSA to assist them in finding project participants, to enable research progress through data collection. * Migraine and healthy eyes research - Bao Nguyen
People aged 18-45 who get migraines, and people aged 35-45 who do not get headaches, are invited to participate in a research study assessing the effects of migraine headaches on visual function (HREC#0932638).The study will involve two test sessions (up to 3 hours) and an eye screening (up to 30 minutes) at the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences at the University of Melbourne, during which the following will be performed:
- An eye examination to determine whether you are eligible to participate in the study;
- A series of standard clinical tests where you are required to respond to targets presented in your field of view;
- Electrophysiological recordings of the signals coming from the eye and the brain in response to the appearance of a black-and-white pattern on a computer screen.
Volunteers will be reimbursed $20 per session to contribute towards any out-of-pocket expenses incurred in attending. Please contact Bao Nguyen at bnguyen@unimelb.edu.au or on 9349 7479.

* Cortical markers for glaucoma - Heather Connor
Volunteers are needed for a research study into the effects of glaucoma on the brain. Participants need to be aged 40 years or over and have good general and eye health.
Volunteers will require two appointments in total. The first will be at the Australian College of Optometry in Carlton, where they will have a full eye examination and imaging of the back of the eye. The second appointment will be at the Brain Research Institute located at the new Melbourne Brain Centre at the Austin main campus in Heidelberg where they will have an MRI scan.

Do you speak Russian? Are you over 18? Looking for Russian migrants to Australia and/or children/grandchildren of migrants to participate in PhD research study. Your only task will be to provide recorded samples of everyday language use over a period of a few months. Your data and identity will remain strictly confidential, and you will receive a book voucher in exchange for your participation.

* Women with vaginal thrush - Cathy Watson
Women who have experienced vaginal thrush during the past 12 months are sought for a study. We are looking for women to participate in a randomised controlled trial for approximately 2 weeks to investigate the use of a herbal supplement for prevention of this condition.
No payment is provided, but participants have the benefit of knowing that they are providing invaluable assistance in a study that could potentially benefit large numbers of women. A 12 month subscription to a women’s magazine will be provided in acknowledgement of time and effort. Previous pilot participants also welcome.
