Would you like to write for Plane Tree, the postgrad magazine? Do you have ideas for organising the annual Postgrad Ball? Are you concerned about equity issues, or transport concessions, or education quality, and want to make a difference?
A great way to do any of these things is to participate in a committee. GSA's governing body, the Council, has six standing committees. These help Council carry out its work in the specific areas of: activities, audit, campaigns, equity, policy & research, and publications.
Each committee's membership includes GSA Councillors, GSA staff members, and Graduate students. The commitment involved is to attend a meeting, usually once a month, and in return you get to have a say in what UMPA does.
Activities Committee
Activities Committee plans and organises GSA Events for students, such as day trips, bar nights, and the Graduate Ball.
Audit Committee
Audit Committee reviews GSA financial processes and reporting.
Equity Committee
Equity committee makes sure GSA is pro-active in addressing the needs of all equity groups among Graduate students.
Research and Campaigns Committee
Research & Campaigns Committee develops GSA's position on matters of policy at faculty, University and sector level, and identifies emerging issues requiring a policy or research response. This Committee also plans and organises GSA Campaigns, which presently include transport concession cards, coursework quality, University governance and facilities for research students.
Publications Committee
Publications Committee has planning and editorial responsibility for various GSA Publications, including Plane Tree.
