Three elections are currently being conducted for graduate student positions in 2010:

  • GSA Council (17 positions);
  • University Council (1 position);
  • GSA Office bearer positions (10 positions drawn from the elected GSA Council)

The Victorian Electoral Commission has been engaged by GSA to independently conduct the elections and the Returning Officer is Ms. Phillippa Heskett.

On Friday, 7 August 2009 the nomination period closed for both the graduate student representative member position for the 2010 University Council and for the 2010 GSA Council positions.

Three graduate students nominated for the graduate student representative member position for the 2010 University Council.  The Returning Officer has accepted their nominations and has declared the order of the ballot to be:

Alexander White
Tammi Jonas
Zoe Edwards

This election will be conducted by a postal ballot to all currently enrolled graduate students.  Ballot papers will be sent to the home addresses that graduate students have recorded with the University.  Papers should be received by Monday, 7 September 2009.

At the close of the initial nomination period for the 17 positions on the 2010 GSA Council, eleven nominations were received by the Returning Officer.  As there were insufficient nominations for the positions on GSA Council, the Returning Officer extended the nomination period for one week, until Friday, 14 August 2009.  A further three nominations were received.

The following fourteen graduate students have been declared elected:

Mr Anwar Shah
Ms Judith Mc Vey
Dr Matthew Broadhead
Dr Sina Babazadeh
Mr Paul Coats
Mr Martin Spencer
Ms Rohani Mohamad
Ms Siti Khodijah
Mr Josh Schmidt
Mr Timothy Arnot
Mr Azlan McLennan
Ms Renee’ Otmar
Mr Tony Williams
Mr Alec West

Under the GSA Election Regulations, the three remaining positions on the 2010 GSA Council will be declared as casual vacancies by the GSA Council-elect when it first meets in 2010.  At that time, the Council will determine how the casual vacancies will be filled.
