Tip: Check out this great website for recycling things you don't need, and
acquiring FREE things you do need: www.freecycle.org.au
This site is about recycling goods but not charging for them or being
charged to take them to the local rubbish tip. It is absolutely free to
use.
If you have ever looked at an item around your home or work and thought
to yourself 'that thing taking up some valuable space but it is too good
to throw out. I wish someone who would appreciate it would come and take
it away', then you need to list it in the recycle classifieds. It comes
down to the old saying 'one man's junk is another man's treasure'.
You can even join a mailing list to receive emails whenever someone posts
a new item to give away.

Tip:
To international grad families with young children. I find that family day
care provides excellent services at a very reasonable rate, with qualified
profesional carer. Searching for a carer is a lot easier than I thought.
First, contact the city council where we live in. The website may not have
much info. as this is a very personalized service. They have a special
dept/officer who helps ppl like us. Communicate your situation (by email
or phone call) & go from there. I believe that one will find it useful &
will be satisfied.
Advantages sending the child to family day care includes:
- reasonable rate (around $5 per hour)
- better care for the child (a carer may hv max 4 kids at any one time)
- home setting (safe and inspected by city council)
- typically available nearby our own house (transportation convinient)
- professional, trained & licensed carers (also monitored by city council)
- receipt is given for payments made
(good for tax deduction & childcare rebate - need to apply at Child care center - http://www.services.unimelb.edu.au/childcare/ )

When asking questions in class, it is important to make sure that (1) the teacher understands the question you are asking, and that (2) your question is structured in such a way that the teacher's answer will be useful to you. (1) is easy enough to achieve, but (2) is more difficult. For example, suppose that I am attending an introductory geography lecture, and that I am confused about what the physical world is like and how it operates, specifically it's shape and direction of rotation. I then ask the teacher a question in class.
If I say: "Can you tell me how the shape and rotation of the physical world comes about?"
Then the teacher will say: "Well, gravity acts in all directions equally, and we live in a 3-dimensional environment, so strong gravity fields would naturally clump things into a ball..." (this is the correct answer to my question, but it wasn't what I wanted to know)
And so my question has achieved (1) but not (2).
If I say: "From my understanding, the physical world is flat and rotates in a clockwise direction. Is there any evidence to the contrary?"
Then the teacher will say: "Plenty! For starters, we know that the world is round and rotates from east to west. Early explorers thought that the world was flat but proved themselves wrong after they successfully circumnavigated the globe..." (this is the correct answer to my question, and it also answers my internal questions about the shape of the world and its direction of rotation)
And so my question has achieved both (1) and (2).
