Ordering Printroom Services Online
The printing and binding of student work can be arranged by emailing, faxing or calling the GSA Printroom. Ideal for international, interstate and travelling students.

Please follow these steps to organise the printing and binding of your thesis:

  1. Convert your document to a PDF file. The only way to ensure that the formatting in your document is completely preserved once it is opened on a new computer is to virtually print it using a PDF converter. The Printroom requires one file in PDF format in order to undertake your online Order. (If you are unsure how to convert your word file to a PDF, please see Further Information For Publishing Your Thesis.)
  2. Download and fill out a GSA Printroom Order Form. Enter all your details, printing and binding specifications and email the order form back to the Printroom with your pdf file in an attachment (you can also print out and fax or mail it to us).
  3. Approve the quote and organise payment for printing. When the Printroom has received your order form and pdf file, you will receive a response as soon as possible which will include a quote. If you approve this quote, you will need to arrange payment by calling or faxing the printroom, or by paying on pickup.

Bound or printed documents can also be delivered free of charge to University of Melbourne locations that you specify via the interdepartmental mail service. Please consult the official list of interdepartmental delivery locations before requesting a delivery location.

Please note, if possible it is always better to supervise the printing and binding of your own work by coming in person to the Printroom.

Hard Binding (Permanent Binding)

To arrange final submission of your thesis after it has been marked, you will normally need to have your document hard bound.  Hardbinding is a separate service to the Printroom and carried out by Doncaster Bookbinders.  Therefore two separate payments and order forms must be completed.

A. Doncaster Bookbinders Order Form and pricelist
B. GSA Printroom Order Form.

Fill out both forms, and either drop off at the GSA printroom, or email them in with a PDF copy of your work.

Timing: Your thesis copies can be couriered free of charge to Doncaster Bookbinders with a week-to-week, Monday to Monday turnaround basis.
Dropoff: completed printing by 10.30am on a Monday.
Pickup: from 2pm the following Monday (a week later)

*If you wish to print your document in the Printroom, you must place your order by no later than the Friday before pickup.

Colour swatches used for selecting the colour of your hardbinding can be consulted in the GSA Printroom or can be viewed here.

For more detailed information about hardbinding, please contact Doncaster Bookbinders. Please note, payment for Doncaster Bookbinders is separate to the Printroom and is by credit card, cheque or money order only.
