From Dave:
Hi, Alli and myself will be representing queer postgraduate students in 2009. I'm currently in the 3rd year of a PhD investigating new vaccines for infectious diseases which followed on from an undergrad Biomed degree at Melbourne. As queer officers we would like to continue addressing the wide range of issues that non-heterosexual students face by providing resources and organizing events that are aimed to inform, entertain, and help you forge friendships with other queer students- which can sometimes be difficult. Please feel free to contact us by email, the mailing list, or facebook group. We hope to meet you in 2009!
From Alli:
I'm Alli O'Toole, a second year Master of Food Science student, having previously studied Biomed at Melbourne as an undergrad. I'm looking forward to representing all graduate students through my position on GSA council this year, and in particular representing queer students as one of the queer officers alongside Dave Pejoski. The social side of uni is important for all students, but especially so for queer students who may not have had opportunities to form friendships with many other queer people prior to attending uni. With this in mind, we're hoping to continue to increase the sense of community amongst graduate queer students through a range of events that will provide something appealing for everyone (hopefully!), from social drinks to guest speakers to participation in events as part of the wider Victorian queer community. Remember that the GSA is what you make of it, so please don't hesistate to get in touch with questions, issues and ideas.
